I am not sure if I can just use some 3V3 regulator to step down the voltage from M5Stick and connect data lines directly or if I need logic level converter for data lines. I looked at the schematic on github and it looks like the grove pins are connected directly to the mcu.</p>

As you said, the data pins all connect directly to esp32.</p>
