I already guessed that fan isn't functioning in battery mode and thought of using the connector. But it looks like I need to hook them up to a USB battery pack for VOC. Assuming the sensors work also better when the fan works.

One wonders why an internal 600 mAh battery is essential to the operation of the device, and why it's impossible to supply power via the Grove HY-2.0 connector.
