M5Atom Echo Microphone Problem

Recently purchased three M5Atom Echo units on amazon.com and the seller was advertised as the M5stack store.
Spent quite some time to get the microphone working with the voice assistant firmware for home assistant with no positive result. After intensive research tried the repeater example and programmed all three units with Arduino IDE. The button does nothing and there is no feedback response from the microphone.
Opened the case and noticed that the board version is ""v1.1 Echo". The board seems to be slightly different from V1.0. Every other test regarding the LED, button, Bluetooth and speaker mode seem to work OK! All three have the same microphone problem.
Cold these be fake?
Perhaps, somebody could help in testing these further.
