M5Stack Mini Can Termination resistor issue
-
The M5Stack Mini Can does have a built in termination resistor. The schematic shows R1 as 120 ohm. If this is fitted to every unit on a Can bus IE more than 2 we will end up going out side of the spec for approximately 60 ohms. One could attempt to remove the small SMD resistor from the board which I think is the one high lighted in this picture.

Can someone confirm this is the correct one. It would have been good if the unit had a jumper so you could enable it if required. I know a lot of board on the internet have also followed this trend of adding the terminator resistor.

Hello @Johnmholmes
given that there is only one 120 Ohm resistor listed in the schematic I'd say that is the one. You should also be able to follow the traces from the resistor to the connector to confirm.
Please note: I do not have the M5Stack Mini Can unit so I cannot confirm / measure it myself.
Thanks

Yes - that is the resistor. Once I lifted the one leg (after removing the solder) the 120 OHM resistance was not measured across Can Hi and Can Low. I sure wish they had put in a jumper.
