Well, strange behaviour is not seldomly caused by strange root causes.
I already explained that after upload, the program seems to be running normal, only the screen stays dark.
After a lot of trial and error, it seems that it is to do with how the software is uploaded. We are using CH9102 or CP210x (not even sure which one). But the reality is that after uploading, poweing off the Core2, the screen seems to function normal. This is repeated behaviour detected with several M5Core2. Probably we need to upgrade one of the driver. Still hesitating about that because on OSX upgrading can be a risky business. Anyway, it appears to be solved (dont understand it btw).

We are struggling really hard with the M5Unified library. We tried getting things working using startwrite and endwrite at the correct places, and also without using (as you suggested). The problems that we are facing is that sometimes the display lights up after a restart and sometimes it does not. We dont believe it is a faulty device because we se it happening with different M5Core2.

We are diving into it. Maybe i will make a new post discribing the problems (and hopefuly solutions) that we are facing with M5Unified.
For now, we dont dare to update our devices in the field because there is no turning back.

Tab5 still will not load and run a App from the menu. Any M5UI Apps I have in the menu list. Apps that have been made only in M5GFX will load and run from the Apps list menu. Any thoughts. Thanks in advance.

@robski - got it solved, turns out the problem was that i was connecting to usb-c on my laptop, which didn't seem like it should be a problem since the Atom Lite also uses usb-c. But once i changed over to my usb-a port, it's all working fine.

using the latest library versions, e.g. M5GFX 0.2.13 and M5Unified 0.2.8 I can build M5Dial firmware with no error.

I have tried several examples from both the Arduino & IDF (both updated to the latest) and none of them seem to expose the Tab5 as a usb device:

USB Keyboard & Mouse examples USB Custom HID device USBMSC example USB Serial example

I can get similar projects working on my ESP32-S3 device without issue..

I'm wondering if anyone has a working example of the Tab5 enumerating as a USB device?
