M5StickC Plus2 - uiflow2 firmware burn issue - (waiting, checking device)

I see below (waiting, checking device) for ages when trying to burn latest firmware or any of Uiflow2 firmwares

I can do erase, I can burn uiflow1 firmware, i can load code via Arduino from some reason its not happy to start firmware burn process.
Any pointers what to try?

Switch the computer off then on again as something is blocking access to the com port

will try, but its bizarre as anything else i try works, so port is open for action

it worked on another machine, burned latest firmware ok.
